Godolphin is one of Parfums de Marly's original four masculine releases, launched in 2010 and created by perfumer Michele Saramito. Named after the renowned stallion ancestor of so many glorious horse race winners, it's built around an opulent rose-leather accord that feels distinctly sophisticated and Italian in character.
The opening features saffron, mate, thyme, cypress, green notes, and fruity nuances — a bold, aromatic-spicy introduction with a sharp, almost medicinal saffron presence that defines the first hour. The heart reveals rose, iris, and jasmine, creating a surprisingly floral core that softens the leather and gives Godolphin a refined, almost baroque elegance. The fruity sweetness weaves through both phases, adding warmth without going gourmand.
The base is a warm blend of leather, amber, vetiver, cedarwood, musk, and vanilla that dries down smooth and woody-musky. Longevity is very good, easily eclipsing 8+ hours, with fairly strong projection for the first couple of hours, then becoming much more moderate.
Community comparisons land most often on Tom Ford Tuscan Leather and Rasasi La Yuqawam — Godolphin is more approachable and versatile than Tuscan Leather, slightly sweeter and fruitier with a smoother leather note. If you're curious about niche leather fragrances but want something refined rather than aggressive, Godolphin is an excellent decant to explore — it's one of PdM's classiest early releases and wears beautifully across cooler seasons.
